This Ain't No Magic Wand

I don't get these new rubbery mascara wands.

Am I missing something?

Everytime I've tried them, I think they totally suck.

But their advertising is pretty convincing and I venture out and buy another weirdly shaped, weirdly formed mascara wand only to be tragically disappointed (you may think I am exaggerating, but when it comes to me and my lashes, it's an epic deal, so the disappointment is, in fact, tragic) and I go back to my trusty L'Oreal Voluminous, which I have been using since seventh grade.

Maybe it's all just a sales gimmick. But maybe I'm lash-ly challenged and can't keep up with times.

oh i totally know what you mean. i have tried so many and i always go back to my maybelline mascara, the one in the pink bottle. it's basic, nothing fancy, but it does the job. i feel like all the other ones just put too much on, or not enough, and then some are way too expensive. so not worth it in my opinion. i think, if you have something that works, stick with it. :)

I hate the rubbery ones. They're useless in my opinion. I've never had one that did what it was supposed to do - I always end up with clumpy, stubby-looking lashes.

I agree - the rubbery ones do nothing for me. I tried another new one too - one that looked like a giant Q-tip with bristles sticking just out of the top. It was absolutely useless - even if it was Penelope Cruz's favorite.

I think they're all gimmicks. The models always have digitally changed eyelashes anyway so how can we really know what normal-people lashes will look like? Plus, some of them look absolutely freaky. I'm okay not have sky-high lashes or lashes that look like stilettos.

I agree with you too. I have received a few from Clinique 'free with purchase' that have the rubber brush. They are horrible! And I can't imagine what they charge for a full size tube of it! I stick with the old fashioned, regular brush!

I agree with all the comments. I still love the big "teddy bear" brush mascaras, they help my lashes look the most luscious.

I do the same thing. Luckily I have avoided it for quite some time... but one almost got to me last night. In the end, I always go back to L'Oreal Voluminous.

me too! I have tried a couple of different mascara's, but in the end I ALWAYS come back to L'Oreal Voluminous. It's the best!!

Boo on mascara. I can't stand it. You could be like me and just not wear mascara. Seriously, I haven't worn it for about 15 years. I can't stand it, I hated buying all the gimmicky stuff and nothing ever worked. All I ever did was pull my lashes out whenever I wore it, so I quit. I did try some clear mascara back in high school to see if that helped with all the clumpy crap, but I still pulled my lashes, so no go.

I was reading in a magazine, or maybe it was on Oprah or something that the highest rated mascara from celebs and normal people is the Maybelline one in the pink bottle. I think it's called Great Lash? Anyway, can't say that I use it, but I thought it was great that one of the cheap-o drug store types is the American favorite.
