Teacher Gift Idea - School-Themed CD Tutorial

Last month, as a member of my girls' daycare board of directors, I had the pleasure of doing a teacher appreciation gift. Candy bars with a cloying note seem to be the norm. I always try to do something a little different and hopefully keep it fun and useful.

This time I put together a school-themed CD.

The "recipe," if you will:
Thirty blank CDs - already had
Two packs of CD labels -  $8 each
Two packs of recycled cardboard CD cases - $5 each
Resume paper for the exterior label - already had
Twine - already had
Sticker embellishments - already had

I researched a few school-related songs and downloaded them:

  • ABC by Jackson Five
  • Ring Ring Goes the Bell by Chuck Berry
  • Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills, and Nash
  • Grade 9 by Barenaked Ladies
  • We're Going to Be Friends by Jack Johnson
  • Be True to Your School by the Beach Boys
  • What a Wonderful World This Would be by Sam Cooke
  • School of Rock by Jack Black

Then I burned the CDs, printed the labels, printed the scrapbook paper labels, slapped the CD sticker labels on, glued on the exterior label on the CD case, added a couple embellishments, and tied off with twine. I was able to do each gift for less than $1 a piece.
